Andrew Eric Cross, 64, of Agawam and formerly of Turners Falls, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 6, 2026, in the early morning hours. His cause of death was natural, following a period of declining health.
Born on April 23, 1962, in West Virginia to Martha Helen Cross and William E. Cross, Jr., Andrew grew up moving with his family wherever his father’s Marine service took them. He spent his teen years in Goleta, California, where he developed a lifelong love for the state’s natural beauty, mountains, and Pacific Ocean communities.
Andrew earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Ramapo College, New Jersey, and carried an infinite curiosity and love of learning throughout his life.
Family and Personal Life
Married Barbara on August 5, 2006, after meeting in 2005.
Devoted husband, stepfather, and grandfather, always supportive and loving.
Remembered as a cat whisperer, deeply attached to Goldie and Oliver.
Loved music, cultural cuisines, travel, and sports — especially the California Angels, Lakers, and England’s World Cup team.
Career and Service
Worked at Franklin County Technical High School as a Computer Shop teacher.
Pursued teaching at Westfield University, focusing on Special Education.
Spent 12 years as a wheelchair van driver for Van Pool (Beacon Mobility), where he was admired for his safe driving, reliability, and compassion toward children and families.
Legacy
Andrew will be remembered as a kind, caring soul who valued relationships, learning, and service. His warmth, humor, and dedication touched countless lives — from his family to the children he safely transported daily.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, children Lori Gertz and Sherry Kaufman, grandchildren Jonah, Talia, Sarah, Joshua, Zach, and great-grandson Lyle, as well as niece Katherine Jones and her daughters Sawyer and Quinn.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dakin Humane Society in Springfield, MA, or a charity of choice.
