The Middlebury community is grieving the loss of David Walter Young, who died on July 11, 2026, at the age of 18 following a tragic moped crash.
David was born in Waterbury to David Martin Young and Sandra Paula (Montana) Young. He was the younger brother to Gabrielle and Michael Young. A recent graduate of Pomperaug High School, Class of 2026, David had planned to attend Southern Connecticut State University to pursue a career in finance.
Known for his larger-than-life personality, David’s obituary described him as someone who “lived every day to the fullest.” Friends and family remember his contagious laugh, joyful spirit, and ability to light up any room. “Everyone he met was instantly his friend,” his loved ones shared, reflecting the warmth and kindness that defined his character.
The accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Middlebury Road when David’s moped collided with a pickup truck. He was taken to Waterbury Hospital, where he later passed away. The Naugatuck Valley Collision Investigation Team is continuing to investigate the crash.
David’s life, though tragically cut short, was filled with love, laughter, and dreams for the future. He will be remembered not only for his ambitions but also for the joy he brought to those around him.
